Coaching for leadership development: for people who identify with protected groups

Overview

We need people who identify with protected groups on our Boards in the health and social care system. Your voice is vital to make our system stronger and reflect the diverse communities we serve. However, we know that people from protected groups face barriers to accessing leadership positions and receiving support from leadership mentoring and coaching programmes. This means there are gaps in talent development and pathways for progression.

Addressing these gaps and barriers, especially at the Board level, is why this new pilot coaching programme has been developed. We are focusing on Board-level leadership, as we believe it will make a significant impact to how whole organisations approach engaging with both staff and service users who are members of protected groups, and that it will have a ‘trickle-down’ effect on recruitment from protected groups at all other levels. If this programme successfully helps participants reach their career goals, it may be expanded into the rest of the North West and throughout different levels of leadership.

This programme is being delivered by the Health Innovation North West Coast’s Coaching Academy on behalf of the NHS England & Improvement’s North West Region People Team.

Expressions of interest closed on 17 January 2022. If you have questions about this programme, please email coach@innovationagencynwc.nhs.uk

  • receive support in planning and executing their individual leadership/career goals
  • be a part of a like-minded and ambitious community
  • gain a variety of new insights, skills, knowledge, and experiences that will help them towards their next step

We will generously support the needs of each individual to participate and get the most out of this programme.
