A manufacturing facility for civilian and surgical masks has been launched by a Lancashire family business which has received support from the Innovation Agency's commercial team. The new facility, Walton Mill, is based in Lancashire.

Issa Group’s companies supply medical equipment and pharmaceutical supplies including PPE, medication and medical devices.

In support of the response to COVID-19, Issa Group helped to deliver over 45 million surgical face masks, 50 million locally manufactured disposable aprons and other PPE to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), NHS trusts, local authorities and other key partners.

Through partnerships with charities such as the Daily Mail’s Mail Force and the Scheinberg Relief fund, set up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Issa Group has also supported donations of over 15 million masks and 14 million aprons.

Health Innovation North West Coast is currently supporting Issa Group with the spread and adoption of Biodose CONNECT©, a device that helps people to live independently by enhancing medication adherence whilst remotely tracking compliance, and are currently undertaking a real-world validation of the product as part of their commercial support programme.

Steve Adams, Innovation Agency Commercial Programme Manager for Lancashire, said: “Issa Group, a well-established Lancashire family business, have demonstrated how invaluable the support of our business community has been during COVID-19. Through creativity and innovation, Issa Group are providing much needed resources while contributing to the region’s economic growth during challenging times.”

Mehfuz Dasu Patel, Product & Service Manager at Issa Group, said: “As a family business, we pride ourselves on pioneering the friendly and human side to business. If there is one thing for which we are most grateful, it is the opportunity our business provides us in giving back to our community so we are proud to make our network of manufacturers, many of which are British, available to support the nation in its fight to contain the Coronavirus outbreak, helping the hidden heroes on the frontline in the NHS, social care, and public sector do their job safely.”
