NHS Innovation Accelerator

The NHS Innovation Accelerator is a joint programme between the Health Innovation Network and NHS England, which by early 2018 had helped 36 Innovation Fellows to raise a total of £40 million external funding; create 116 new jobs; and spread their products go 964 additional NHS providers and commissioners.

In the North West Coast there are two Innovation Fellows; Dave Burrows of Damibu in Liverpool, with their app CATCH – Common Approach To Children’s Health; and Liz Ashall-Payne of ORCHA, a health app finder platform provider, based in Daresbury. Health Innovation North West Coast has supported both companies.

Clinical Entrepreneurs

We support entrepreneurial clinicians and in our region we have hosted events alongside NHS England National Clinical Lead for Innovation Professor Tony Young; offered mentorship and made introductions for the entrepreneurs with potential collaborators.

Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) Healthcare

We help the AHSN Network to deliver the NHS England-funded SBRI Healthcare funding programme. This operates by setting a particular health care challenge in each round of funding, for businesses to develop innovative solutions. The awards result in fully funded development contracts between the NHS and the awarded company and in the five years to 2018, 12 businesses in our region have won a total of £8.2 million.
