Overview

Coaching Foundations is a five-month introduction to coaching. It will equip you to coach colleagues and system partners with the coaching skills, tools and techniques necessary to build and maintain healthy innovation cultures, bring your team on a change journey and develop effective leadership.

You will receive the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC)’s foundation-level certification upon successful completion and 15 CPD hours from the three coaching workshops. Upon completion, you may want to continue onto Coaching Practitioner training.

Learning outcomes

This course will equip you with structured, practical coaching approaches based on established theoretical models that you can adapt to your team’s needs and put to immediate use.

We will cover:

  • the benefits of coaching for your team and workplace,
  • how to use various coaching tools and models, and explore what may work best for your team/service,
  • how to develop your self-awareness, presence and resourcefulness as a coach,
  • options around building and managing an effective coaching contract and relationship,
  • various techniques and tools for managing the boundaries in coaching relationships,
  • how to build confidence and appreciation of your own coaching style through peer coach practice during workshops.

You will build a coaching ‘portfolio’ that will be a digital story of your development and learning in the course.

Audience

We welcome professionals from all health and social care organisations. You do not have to be a line manager to receive coach training. However, to put your learning into practice, you need to think about who you are going to coach. We recommend that you have at least three ‘coachees’ who cancommit to giving you feedback and providing time to be coached.

Details

The programme is currently delivered online through the Future NHS platform (as well as using Zoom and Microsoft Teams). This course has no prerequisite.

Workshop topics and learning modules:

  • Introduction to coaching
  • Coaching mindset
  • Coaching skills and practice

The programme spans five months to give you flexibility to complete the course work and ensure you have a minimum of 10 hours of coaching practice. You can expect a blend of group and independent work, including virtual workshops, online modules, independent and collaborative assignments, and coaching practice. You will have the opportunity to share knowledge and collaborate with other health and care professionals during workshops and through an online collaboration platform. These collaborations are also required for assessment and course completion.

In order to benefit most from this experience, we encourage you to set aside 2-3 hours per week to complete your portfolio and any required reading. You must attend the three monthly full-day workshops required for course completion.

Instructors

You will be supported by a course leader who is an experienced professional coach and by your fellow peer coaches.
